Lyme disease can be treated with antibiotics at any stage. Here are some things to keep in mind as you seek treatment.

Step 1: Describe later-stage symptoms
Describe any symptoms associated with later-stage Lyme disease. Your doctor may prescribe intravenous antibiotics in cases where Lyme disease has progressed. With the advice of a good doctor, you can address your symptoms and keep them under control.

Step 2: Tell your doctor when you were bitten
Tell your doctor when you were bitten. Oral antibiotics are usually prescribed for early-stage Lyme disease.

Step 3: Contact your doctor
Contact your doctor immediately if you've been bitten by a tick and experience signs and symptoms of Lyme disease, such as a rash, flu-like symptoms, joint pain, and neurological difficulties. Treatment of Lyme disease is most effective if started early.

Tip
Oral antibiotics are prescribed if the tick is still attached to your body and has been there for less than 36 hours. You can begin taking antibiotics within 72 hours of removing the tick if you are over eight years of age and not breast-feeding or pregnant.
