Two members of the Russian punk band Pussy Riot, who spent nearly two years in prison for their protest in Moscow's main cathedral, held their first news conference on December 27 on the premises of Dozhd television in Moscow. Asked by RFE/RL's Russian Service to present a verbal portrait of President Vladimir Putin, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova described the Russian leader as an "opaque chekist," who "surrounds himself with walls that block out reality." Maria Alyokhina said Putin represents the mind-set of Russia's security services, filled with "conspiracies and suspicions." (Video by RFE/RL's Russian Service)
