In show we go behind the scenes to look at the varied work of a health protection officer. Public health focuses on protecting our environment against health risks and threats, preventing illnesses and injury and promoting health and wellbeing in the community.

Amakoura is in for a busy time when he first heads off to Ports of Auckland to set a trap for some dangerous mosquitoes attempting to make their way into the country. Once caught, the mosquitoes must be sent for testing. Next he's off to a farm to inspect how dangerous substances are stored and discuss how poison has been laid on the property. And proving this really is a career that gets you out in the field, Amakoura finds himself in a boat on the harbour taking pollution samples which are then recorded on a GPS so the location can later be identified on a map.

For a career that presents plenty of variety and challenge, this is definitely one to investigate further.
