At ROBO JAPAN in Yokohama in 2008, the Nihon Kogakuin College demonstrated KARFE. KARFE is an educational personal robot, developed to help robots and people learn to communicate with each other. In hands-on study of robots using KARFE, the Nihon Kogakuin College is working to add more practical capabilities, including speech recognition, synchronization with home audio-visual equipment, and remote operation via wireless LAN, the Internet, and PHS. From now on, KARFE will need to have increasingly interactive capabilities in home-help, watchman, and child-care roles. To meet such needs, KARFE continues to evolve, along with the robot engineers of the future.
