Podcast Video of Protecting Territorial & High Seas Fisheries, Tuna & Shark Overfishing & Stopping Shark Finning Through Economic Pressure by Danny Quintana at a Book Signing: One of the primary tenets of the Global High Seas Marine Preserve, a non-profit organization dedicated to saving the oceans and marine life, is to ban industrial and commercial in international waters. In this radio show segment Danny Quintana, author of Space & Ocean Exploration: The Alternative to the Military-Industrial Complex, talks about how many countries are managing their 200-mile limit territorial fisheries well but we are getting in trouble because it is open season on the high seas and massive trawlers and illegal poachers are taking a toll on a number of different top marine predator species.

His main example of out of control fishing is the cruel practice of shark finning, where sharks have their fins cut off while they are alive and are left to die on deck or thrown back in the ocean to perish slowly in an immobile state. Upwards of 100 million sharks are year are killed for Shark Fin Soup, an Asian delicacy, and a species that has survived for over 400 million years and is essentially the perfect eating machine, necessary for ocean health, is being fished out of existence.

Technology has created massive fishing trawlers that can strip the oceans clean in rapid fashion with nets 60 miles long laced with tens of thousands of hooks large enough to fit two 747 jumbo jets inside. Top-of-the-food-chain marine predators like tuna, whales and sharks are under severe pressure from industrial fishing and illegal fishing operations, often using slave labor, around the world.
