Canadian singer/writer Eric Mercury fetched up at Stax's Enterprise subsidiary after recording for SAC and Avco Embassy. He released two albums on Enterprise, the brilliantly titled " Funky Sounds Nurtured In The Fertile Soil Of Memphis That Smell Of Rock" and "Love Is Taking Over" but this tune was a 45 only release. I love his gritty vocal, but this has a superb arrangement with a lazy sax, choppy piano chords, churchy organ and great backing vocals. Great track!

There's a later version of this song by Sam Russell on Playboy which is also pretty good, but is a little smoother.
