Fish acclimation is very important.  If you don't acclimate your fish, the stun of being put into different water can cause weakness, disease, and death.  Acclimation is a simple step to help get your fish used to your new tanks water.  By getting the temperature the same, and by adding some of your own water to the bag, you get the fish used to the new water slowly;  doing this gives them a better chance at survival.
