Melodic guitar playing is nearly synonymous with great guitar playing. The word “melodic” is often reserved for some of the best players in any genre. Here’s the recipe. 1. Pick a melodic song (E.g., Theme From An Imaginary Western, by Mountain) 2. Take one phrase at a time. 3. Learn that phrase on one string – BY EAR, NO TAB … Sing it! 4. Learn that phrase vertically (multiple strings in one position) 5. Learn that phrase on other strings and positions 6. Continue for the rest of the melody
