Day 42 in the Atlantic, Day 60 in the Eastern Pacific
Typhoon Soulik continues to bear down on Taiwan as a high-end Category 2 storm with sustained winds of 110mph, and a central pressure of 952mb. Soulik may still intensify before reaching land, and may re-attain Category 3 status before making landfall in central or northern Taiwan, where Typhoon and Torrential Rain Warnings are in effect, along with the Japanese Miyako and Yaeyama Islands. An Orange Typhoon Alert is also in effect along the coast of China, where Soulik may make landfall as a minimal typhoon. Flooding is likely to be the main concern in both Taiwan and China, with Soulik a well organised storm bringing torrential rains into the region. Strong winds will be the bigger concern on the east coast of Taiwan, where gusts of over 115mph are likely.

The remnants of Chantal are continuing on near Cuba and the Bahamas, and have a 30% chance of regeneration. Computer models are split as to whether Chantal will re-attain tropical storm status or not, though the track forecast is fairly confident in a northward movement soon, taking it past Florida and making landfall somewhere between northern Florida and North Carolina. It is not likely that Ex-Chantal will make landfall as anything more than a weak tropical storm.
