Learn more about our horse training; subscribe to our Carriage Driving Video Library at www.horsedrawnpromotions.com/cdvl While giving a lesson in the arena, the importance of preparing horses for the unexpected is highlighted. This is why we believe that even young or newly-broken horses, including those with novice drivers on the reins, should be safe, confident and happy in any sphere of harness work. In this case, while the driver is still learning to handle a team and knocks over an obstacle, the horses do not panic. Our other video "Preparation for going in a four-in-hand" shows some of the work we did with these horses to get them to this stage. A similar situation could occur on a windy day out on the roads, for example if a dustbin blew over in front of the horses, hence why we train them to cope with similar obstacles in our arena. It could also happen at a driving trials event for example if an element is knocked over and becomes tangled amongst the horses or carriage wheels. Please do not try this at home - our horses are trained to cope with these situations and our carriages are specially designed for training horses!
