I'm assuming this is Al Green's brother, and there are a couple of clues on the label that support this. Curtis Rodgers -co-writer and co-producer of this song - had been a member of Al's group The Creations and was a co-founder of the Hot Line Music Journal label, which released Al's first secular recordings with The Soul Mates. Also the label was based in Grand Rapids, the city where the Green(e) family lived after moving from Arkansas. Anyway ... Bob has a fine pleading tenor voice, and the arrangement on this is first rate - nice piano, great twanging Southern guitar, and excellent female backing vocals. Bob cuts loose nicely in the final minute - wailing and yelping to the fade. Great record!
