The grinder was covered in about 1/16" of hard dried grease which took a mix of mineral spirits, turpentine and acetone along with a plastic scraper to remove. The gears were nicely lubricated with oil although it had gummed up a bit. I drained the old oil, cleaned the gears and added motor oil to the reservoir.
