Some of the best shopping deals of the year are offered on Cyber Monday. Just because you have to work that day doesn't mean you have to miss out.

Step 1: Consider internet security policies
Plan to abide by your company's internet security policies. Your employer is legally permitted to monitor how you spend your online time at work.

Tip
A competent IT department can easily monitor your activity on the company network. Software is available that can send a report of all the websites you visit to your boss.

Step 2: Understand current trends
Be aware that some employers offer online shopping options to their employees at work. Find out if your company is one of them.

Step 3: Recognize how bosses think
Recognize that most bosses probably won't mind if you do some online shopping during your lunch break, but they will draw the line if your personal use of the company computer interferes with your work.

Step 4: Talk to your boss
Ask your boss whether you can use the company computer as long as you complete your work on time. Make it clear that your personal usage will be limited to Cyber Monday shopping, if that is the case.

Step 5: Limit your usage
Limit your use of the company computer to the lunch hour assuming your boss gives you the go-ahead. And even better, use a software program like Logmein that lets you log into your home computer while at work. Now go out and find those bargains!

Did You Know?
In 2009, a survey found that the average worker planned on spending nearly 2 full working days shopping for the holidays from their office computers.
