Dungun Folks Urged To Be Wary Of Wild Elephants

The public, especially the residents of Kampung Ladang Gajah Mati in Dungun, Terengganu, are advised to be cautious if they spot or encounter wild elephants in the area. State Department of Wildlife and National Parks, PERHILITAN Director, Rahmah Ilias said, they have received reports on the sighting of two wild elephants roaming in a plantation near Bandar Bukit Besi. Road users have been urged not to take pictures of the mammals or attempt to chase or scare them away, as the elephants might feel threatened and attack them. Several PERHILITAN personnel have been deployed to track down the animals. It was reported that a pair of elephants, believed to have been looking for food, was sighted at Jalan Jerangau-Jabor at about 7am last Tuesday. The two however, disappeared into a nearby oil palm plantation, upon seeing the humans approaching them.
