Ample morning sunshine destabilized the atmosphere nicely to the north of the low. This allowed for some scattered showers and storms to pop up just after noon as the leading edge of the deep tropical moisture surged north into southern Lower Michigan. It was interesting to see the shear in the upper part of the troposphere. Though most of the low and middle level clouds are moving from southeast to northwest, the high cirrostratus layers along with the shower anvils are clearly being sheared west to east. This is a good illustration of an upper-level ridge existing above a lower level trough in a warm-core system with tropical origins. There was one quick lightning strike just after the 34 second mark, but the video only captured a small sliver of a flash. By the time the main rain band arrived it was too dark to get good video and there was no lightning, just some gusty winds.
