According to Conservative MP Liam Fox, getting a free trade deal between the EU and the UK should be ‘one of the easiest in human history’.

Liam Fox says that getting a free trade deal with the EU should be easy and also that, if we do not get a deal, then the UK would of course survive. And he’s right on both counts.

He went on to say that doing a deal would be the best thing for both the UK and the EU economies and their people.

But the EU chief negotiator is saying that talks are stalling because the UK side is not providing sufficient ‘convergence’ by not coughing up loads money and not allowing the ECJ to guarantee the rights of its citizens in the UK.

‘Convergence’, the European Union loves that word by the way, because it’s just shorthand for an EU federalist ratchet.

Also, I wonder what they’d think, if we insisted that our Supreme Court had the final say over the rights of UK citizens living and working in the EU, post-Brexit?

What is it with the freedom of movement of people anyway?

I buy more than the odd bottle of Chilean wine, but we don’t have freedom of movement between Chile and the UK. Loads of stuff we buy has made in China stamped on it, did I miss the declaration on Sino-UK freedom of movement?

And of course the Liberal Democrats are more than happy to weigh in, with their spokesman Tom Brake pointing out that it’s been 113 days since the triggering of article 50 and going on to say that:

"The Conservative government must start to put the interests of the country ahead of its own ideological obsessions and internal squabbling.”

This is, of course, just piffle. The Conservatives, like Labour, the SNP, Plaid Cymru, the Greens and of course the Lib Dems themselves all had as party policy to Remain in the EU - they were all ideologically wedded to the EU and its concept of freedom of movement.

It just turns out that the people of the UK are not so ideologically connected to freedom of movement. The Tories recognised this so have acquiesced to the will of the people, but the Lib Dems just don’t want to acknowledge it. It is the Lib Dems who now have the ideological obsession - that of open borders with the EU.

Tom Brake went on to say:

"That should include giving the people the final say, so they have a chance to reject a disastrous Brexit and stay in the EU."

The people were told that 2016’s EU referendum was the final word and that the government would implement whatever they decided. But the Lib Dems have had their definition of democracy altered by too much exposure to the EU, where democracy means keep voting until you get the answer required by those who think they know better than the proletariat.

Any deal that we strike that includes handing over the equivalent of the crown jewels in cash or accepting open borders would not be a true Brexit, it would just be a form of Remain.

We must stick to our red lines and, if needed, walk away and invoke WTO rules, which would not be in anyone’s interests but would be a better deal for the UK than staying inside the bloc.

And here’s a thought, the fact that the EU negotiators aren’t using the option of falling back on WTO rules as a threat against us, tells you all you need to know - they know it will hurt them more than it will hurt us so want to avoid it happening.

So, where’s the deal Mr Barnier?

Now, I say get on and get out, what do you think?
