The white-throated kingfisher is a tree kingfisher which is widely distributed in south Asia from Turkey east to the Philippines. They basically feed on any small creature that they can catch and kill. On land, they hunt large insects, grasshoppers and lizards. During the wet season they dive to catch aquatic prey in shallow water. While hunting along the water, they prey on fish, crabs, amphibians and reptiles .
