Kenya's current production of pulses is just about a tenth of its capacity. The country is currently producing about 500 to 600 metric tonnes of the legumes a year, yet it has the capacity to deliver over 5 million metric tonnes annually. This is according to the Eastern Africa Grain Council, EAGC, which says the legumes hold the potential to give a significant boost to food security. Despite this potential, the country has been having to import pulses such as beans, cow peas, chicken peas, pegion peas as well as dolly chores from neighbouring East and Central African countries
