We usually get fresh ginger from MD Oriental Market or, in this case, Patel Brothers Indian Market, both in Tampa. I had about a 1" left over chunk that was getting old and started to sprout, so I planted it in a small trough and left it mostly in the shade, hardly ever watering it. It took a while to grow but now I have fresh young ginger whenever I need it for cooking or zalabat (ginger tea).
