UC Clermont opens up its Career Closet

BATAVIA, Ohio (WKRC) - UC Clermont is going the extra mile to help students dress for success with its new career closet. As UC Clermont students prepare for interviews and internships there is one less thing they'll have to worry about is dressing the part.

This is a new service at UC East that is totally free for the students. There is a career closet where students who need professional clothing for interviews, career fairs, internships and jobs can make an appointment to shop for free and the students get to keep the clothes.

Monika Royal-Fischer says they came up with the idea when students couldn't meet the professional dress code for UC's Uptown Campus Career Fair.

She says they wanted to create a resource for students so interview attire wouldn't be the reason they were held back from getting a job.

The Career Closet has received donations from the community, staff and organizers got a community grant from Walmart.

Right now this is for UC Clermont students. She says they also partnered with the Clermont County Public Library and its teen workforce initiative to help teens who needed clothing.

Monika hopes to one day grow this and open it to the community. "My bigger dream and I think the college's bigger dream is to be able to make the Career Closet a true community resource. One of the things that UC Clermont really prides itself on is what's called town-to-gown relations, meaning how the college relates to the community, and this is a great aspect to that relationship and this can be a very easy way for people to get to know the college, but for us to really provide for them."

They are getting a lot of donations in so at this time there is no limit on how many items students can take. Donations can be dropped off at the UC East campus. They are in need of women's clothing size 6 to 8 and 16 to 18.

For the men she says they need husky and tall sizes.
