Welcome to a Pro3rd Lesson from Pixel Film Studios.
Each Pro3rd features 30 unique lower third presets with intro and outro animations.
In this tutorial we’ll show you step-by-step how to use a Pro3rd preset to create a professional lower third for your video production.
Let’s get started.
STEP 1
We’ll start by placing video footage into the Final Cut Pro X timeline.
Locate Pro3rd in the FCPX titles Library and scrub through the animations to find a preset that best matches your clip.
The in & out animation durations of each preset are set. This allow users to extend the length of the title without distorting the animation.
For this example, we’ll match the length of the preset to our clip.
STEP 2
We’ll start by changing the text to match our scene.
Click on the Editable checkbox to activate text editing capabilities.
Next, we’ll double click the text and make the necessary adjustments.
We will change the color of the subtitle to white since the blue font color makes the text a little unreadable in the clip we have chosen.
Now that we’re finished, we’ll deselect the editable checkbox.
STEP 3
In the inspector window, you’ll always see five control sections, On-Screen Controls, Style Controls, Text Controls, and Drop Shadow Controls. Because all Pro3rd products are unique, sometimes you may find additional controls that cater specifically to that style.
We’ll start by using the on-screen controls to adjust the scale, position, and rotation of preset.
Next, we’ll use the style controls to change the elements of the preset. Because the style of each preset is unique, style controls will differ across presets.
In this example we have control over the color, width, and length of the preset.
We will start with stylizing the line.
Since the white shows up clearly on this footage we will keep the color the same, As for the line length and position we will adjust those controls so the line is not to far away or going through our text.
When choosing a color for the boxes we want to pick a color that pops out since the bottom portion of the footage is a little dark. This allows us to draw the viewers eyes directly to the text.
Next we will adjust the spread so our text fits nicely in between.
STEP 4
Once you have the stylization controls complete we will move on the text controls.
By adjusting the tracking amount slider we will be controlling how far our text will spread apart while the lower third animation takes place.
The Animation Spread slider determines how much of the subtitle text will be animating.
FINAL TOUCHES
Lastly is the drop shadow controls.
This will always be an optional control.
Drop Shadows are useful when you would like to add depth.
For this example we will not be using a drop shadow as we already have our lower third in the darkest portion of our clip.
