Boy donates his birthday gifts to Wounded Warriors

ORWIGSBURG, Pa. (WNEP/CNN Newsource/WKRC) -- Blake Stidham is excited to turn 10 years old, the big double digits. This year, however, hes not asking for toys. Instead, the boy from Orwigsburg wants his friends and family to help out wounded veterans. For the Wounded Warriors, to make them feel better, said Stidham. Blakes birthday money will go to the Wounded Warrior Project, an organization that helps wounded veterans across the country. Blake has cerebral palsy and told his mom that he wanted to help others who are disabled. The soon to be 10 year old also loves the Army, so the Wounded Warrior Project was a perfect fit. His great-grandfather is a POW in WWII and has piqued his interested in history, said Kelly Stidham, Blakes mom. Blake put out the message out during his birthday party this past weekend. We asked everybody who came to his party that if they wanted to give a gift, instead of giving a gift to make a donation in his honor, said Blakes mom. Many people who came to Blakes party donated money, but they also donated merchandise and Blake says hes really happy about that. This is what I feel like will make them happy and they can go back home. So far, Blake has raised more than 50 and his grandmother is proud. I think hes a very remarkable young man, very considerate and kind, said Sally Magalengo, Blakes grandmother. The Wounded Warrior Project organizers also think Blake is pretty remarkable and released a statement saying: Wounded Warrior Project is grateful for Blakes selflessness at a time when he should be opening presents and celebrating his 10th birthday. Blakes support will help our mission to honor and empower wounded warriors. Happy birthday Blake, and thank you.
