Body Roll with activating EMS and opening the airway on a lateral victim with 2 rescuers This drill supports the Primary Assessment Progression drills. (Aquatics International, March 2014) Guidelines: Lifeguards are in 3-person teams, with a primary rescuer, secondary rescuer and a victim. Rescuers will be wearing gloves. Primary and secondary rescuers will check for responsiveness of the victim. The trainer will state, "There is no response." The rescuers will roll the victim into the supine position while safely guarding the head, neck and back. NOTE: this is a non-spinal injury victim. Once the victim is on their back, the primary rescuer will move to open the victim's airway and the secondary rescuer will activate EMS. This is an all pass drill, meaning all rescuers must complete the drill for the lifeguard team to receive a pass. This drill must be completed in 7 seconds. Once your lifeguard team has shown proficiency, reduce the drill completion time to 5 seconds. A 6-12 lifeguard team is preferred. This drill can be used with a reduced or expanded number of staff.
