MADISON, Tenn. -- Even when Goodpasture Christian School is closed there are kids on campus taking part in various sports activities.

Dawn Fleming's daughter is among them and it's why she wants no part of a swingers club operating after 8pm across the street.

"That's like a sore thumb in this area," said Fleming.

Last week Metro Council started the process of passing a bill that could prevent the Social Club's move but owners have said they'll challenge that bill in court.

State Representative Bill Beck hopes his newly filed bill might help in that case.

Beck's bill would give Metro Council the authority to ban social clubs from being within a thousand feet of a school, park, or church.

"Hopefully Metro will prevail but if for some reason Metro does not prevail they could rely back on this stat" and still not grant the permit," said Rep. Beck.

The attorney that's representing the club says Rep. Beck has no business stepping into a local matter.

"The people who introduce the bill, the people who support it are just bigots," said attorney Larry Roberts.

Roberts says his clients may end up challenging both pieces of legislation in court.

If they lose he says the Social Club's owners still plan to relocate somewhere nearby.
