At a Certified Farmers' Market the farmer has a certificate posted at their stand that shows what they grow and how much of it they grow.  That's a way of protecting you, the shopper, to know that that person that's selling you that vegetable or that fruit is really the grower.  It also protects the farmer so that he is being able to sell directly to the consumer without unfair competition.
