Preceding Smokey's performance is a Dave story from Act 1 to which Smokey later provides the punchline. Backing Smokey is saxophonist Bruce Kapler, who sat in with the World's Most Dangerous Band throughout the show and who was later a long-standing member in the Late Show's CBS Orchestra. On first synthesizer is Cliff Carter, a member of the 24th Street Band with Hiram Bullock, Will Lee, and Steve Jordan in the late-'70s to early-'80s. He also backed up Sonny & Cher on their Late Night reunion in 1987 and had played frequently with both the WMDB and CBSO. On second synthesizer is 1960s Reggae artist Sonny Burke.
