Our researchers are looking into ways that viruses can actually help us cure very serious diseases and illnesses. Louise Rodino-Klapac, PhD, is researching Muscular Dystrophy. Muscular Dystrophy is a complex genetic disorder that weakens muscles throughout the body. Sometimes, babies show symptoms early on - other times, muscle problems develop later on. With Muscular Dystrophy, particular genes just aren't working properly. Rodino-Klapac is working on a gene therapy that involves using a virus as a way to deliver the correct gene material to the affected muscles.
