YES - Learning to turn over and self-rescue is important for SAFETY. Be proud when you teach the baby to do this. BUT - teaching the baby to voluntarily lunge off the castle to glide (and eventually kick) in a horizontal prone position is also just as big a milestone. Utilizing the castles so that they are shallow, promoting a horizontal fall, is extremely useful. The REACH with two hands (promoted by reaching for a castle) is also going to be helpful in teaching good posture, line, and balance... affecting their ability to learn efficient horizontal swim`~ float ~ swim, which eventually grow up into Freestyle.
