What happened to America's manufacturing capability? http://www.cbsnews.com/news/building-blue-collar-8230-burgers/ Video segments opening with Tom Donohue, president and CEO of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. The Social Security program has progressed from it's original intent as Federal Old Age and Survivors Insurance which was "bought and paid for," to now seemingly being considered as another Welfare entitlement which is bankrupting the nation. Tom Donohue, president and CEO of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce: ""But its the national debt--and entitlements like Social Security and Medicare that contribute to it--that Donohue characterized as "the single biggest threat to our economic future." http://news.yahoo.com/chambers-donohue-pushes-immigration-entitlement-reform-182945069.html Tom Donohue: "The U.S. Chamber of Commerce won't support a long-term deal to rein in spending and increase revenue unless it contains provisions to curb spending on entitlement programs such as Medicare and Social Security...The nation's largest business-lobbying group took the Nov.26 opportunity to make a pitch for a broader deal to rein in the federal budget deficit, with one stipulation: it must include measures to reform entitlement programs such as Medicare and Social Security." http://www.freeenterprise.com/economy-taxes/us-chamber-entitlement-cuts-essential-any-fiscal-cliff-deal-taxes The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has been a leading voice in the outsourcing and off shoring of American jobs: ""The bottom line: outsourcing has made the manufacturing process more efficient and productive, which has helped consumers and our overall economy...the Chamber strongly believes manufacturing and service companies alike should have the freedom and flexibility to source and trade across our country-and around the world. We are not in the business of telling companies that they should outsource, but we are fighting to preserve their right to do so." https://www.ventureoutsource.com/contract-manufacturing/executive-interviews/2007/tom-donohue-u-s-chamber-of-commerce-on-outsourcing-and-offshoring "U.S. Chamber of Commerce, a powerful business lobbying group in the United States that 'has become a fully functional part of the partisan Republican machine' since CEO and president Thomas Donohue took office in 1997....Prior to Donohue's tenure, the Chamber "used to be a trade association that advocated in a bipartisan manner...the New York Times reported in October 2010 that half of the Chamber's $140 million in contributions in 2008 came from just 45 big-money donors, many of whom enlisted the Chamber's help to fight political and public opinion battles on their behalf (such as opposing financial or healthcare reforms, or other legislations). The Chamber is 'dominated by oil companies, pharmaceutical giants, automakers and other polluting industries,' according to James Carter, executive director of the Green Chamber of Commerce."
