Details below the lyrics.

----------------------------------------
Desperate times need desperate hands
And I'm a desperate man
Somehow this doesn't seem to be
What our fathers planned

All the best laws money can buy
If you can pay the cost
Hey Mr Congressman, who decides
When our rights are tossed

Tell me how we'll survive
I'm crying out while our dream slowly dies

I swore allegience to the flag
And this soviergn land
Now the tide is coming in
And we're neck deep in sand

Self-preserving reproachful looks
As the cameras roll
Stand aside when the lights go dim
And watch the water's toll

Tell me how we'll survive
I'm crying out while our dream slowly dies

Only until recently, I was completely apathetic towards politics. When I became a father, I figured I should at least be interested in local happenings, since my kids would be directly influenced by those decisions. Somehow, along the way, I gathered more interest in the national scene.

What I found was disheartening to say the least. Congressional votes are little more than a series of kick-backs and arm-twisting until your side is assured of "victory". Stagnant refusal to do more than toe the party line is crippling our ability to react with healthy legislation. Politicians essentially spend their entire time in office running for re-election, which, of course, is very expensive, opening the door for unscrupulous behavior.

Hell, even acceptance of "honorable" campaign donations is tantamount to a bribe. Are you really going to vote against those who are paying your bills?

I feel as if those at the top have reversed the roles. The general public, the supposed master in the relationship, has now become the servant. And it scares me.

Quite a few friends told me that the lyrics of this song don't work. Politics is a tough sell, and even tougher when you don't illustrate it through a personal story. They do reach me, so I am choosing to run with it anyway. If you have any specific feedback, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for listening/commenting/rating/sharing. I can't express enough how much your support means to me.
