MoF: No Plans To Reopen LRT3 Tender

Finance Minister, Lim Guan Eng said the government has no plans to re-open tender process to source for new Project Delivery Partners (PDPs), for the Light Rail Transit 3 (LRT3) project. This is because the government has to pay more than RM4.2 billion compensation if it called for a tender again. He said this at the Dewan Rakyat earlier today. The government he said, has successfully reduced the cost of the LRT3 project from RM31.65 billion to RM16.63 billion. (Soundbite of Lim Guan Eng/Finance Minister Subtitle: We can only re-evaluate where necessary to cut costs. We have no choice. If we re-open tender, we're faced with no LRT which is much needed. Secondly, we have to pay RM4.2 billion compensation. That's why we need to find a middle ground where we don't have to pay compensation.)
