Please visit us at: http://botanyboy.org/ In June 2013 I was fortunate enough to attend a botanical tour of northern Sichuan lead by Dr. Holger Perner and his wife Wenqing. During the tour we saw nine Cypripedium species in the wild, C. bardolphianum, C. calcicola, C. farreri, C. flavum, C. guttatum, C. micranthum, C. sichuanense, C. shanxiense, C. tibeticum, along with the natural hybrid, C. x wenqingiae (C. tibeticum x C. farreri). There were also many interesting potential hybrid plants between C. tibeticum and C. calcicola, as well as an odd dwarf self pollinating form of C. tibeticum (v. amesianum, an unresolved name). At Holger and Wenqing's nursery, Hengduan Mountains Biotechnology, we also saw C. wardii, C. palangshanense, C. margaritaceum, C. fargesii, C. plechtrochilum, C. yunnanense, as well as many lovely colored forms of C. flavum, and the remake of the natural hybrid between C. tibeticum and C. farreri, C. Wenqing. The photos included here are plants seen at the nursery, in Huanglong National Park, and in the mountain region we were traveling through - the Minshan, or Min Mountains.
