Temporary Managers: Insolvency administrators are increasingly the silent saviours of the German economy. When Werner Schreiber walks into an ailing enterprise, his main task is to unravel the financial chaos and get upset employees, management and investors into a constructive negotiation process. The Heidelberger lawyer has been assisting bankrupt businesses for over 30 years.Whereas the appearance of insolvency administrators once sounded the death knell for any firm forced to use their services, they are nowadays seen as potential saviours, thanks to the Insolvency Statute of 1999. Approximately 40,900 companies declared bankruptcy in Germany in 2008,and 2009 looks set to see even more. Schreibers' current assignment - the prefabricated house maker KAMPA - has been given a reprieve. Production has been restarted and the almost 750 employees will get their wages - at least until the end of May. Elisabeth Pongratz accompanies Werner Schreiber and experiences first hand the challenges all sides are faced with.
