TRRS 306: Porter Jct: NS 19A Drawbar Failure

March 21st was not the day to be the conductor on NS 19A. The dispatcher held them over just east of Chesterton to allow some Michigan Amtraks to join the Chicago Line. After patiently waiting for them to clear up, they restarted their trip westward. They only got forty feet before going into emergency After walking back 24 cars, the conductor found the problem: the rear drawbar on the 24th car pulled right out of the box, and bar and coupler was laying in the gauge. After the car department from Burns Harbor helped fix the issue, 3 hours after stopping, 19A highballs west at Porter on Main 1. Consist: - NS 9791 [C40-9W] - NS 9483 [C40-9W] - 76 cars [Mixed] Location/Time: - NS CHI Line, CP 482, on 3-21-14 at 12:00 CDT *in emergency for 3 hours after taking rear drawbar on 24th car* Thanks for watching!
