My subaru forester drivers side door had a damaged key barrel, someone in the past has attacked it with a screwdriver which damaged the barrel and left a rusty hole in the door. I decided to remove the barrel and instead of replacing it blank off the area and respray the door, there was also a bit or rust up near the wing mirror so a lot of the door was taken apart. Not shown in the video is the fact that i removed the window glass, most of this is possible without removing the glass, and i think ill make a separate video on removing the glass as its quite tricky to remove. The rusty metal was cut out, a plate welded in place, the area grinded flat, then isopon applied. However i think the welding may have warped the panel and left a inedent below the key area hence the indent is still visible when finished. However the rust has been removed completely and there is no hole in the door, the colour matches ok. Its not showroom perfect bodywork but it will do this old car. The key on the drivers side is not required as the car still has remote central locking, and a key barrel on the other side if the battery is flat.
