CINCINNATI (Sydney Benter) -- A formerly stray dog has come back from the brink only to face yet another obstacle. Spirit was found wandering in the Clifton area in September. She was badly neglected and only weighed 25 pounds when the SPCA got her. "We set up a schedule where every day we at least had one volunteer coming in and they would mix some dry food with wet food and just take her out in the play area away from the kennel and just get her to eat," says Mandy Rupp, SPCA volunteer. A month later she was adopted by the Cook family who helped nurse her back to health. "I don't understand how she is so loving. I don't understand after what she's been through how she could be," says Amy Cook. The family found out last week that Spirit has lymphoma. She's had her first chemotherapy but needs many more treatments. The family and Mandy Rupp have started a fundraising effort to help cover the treatment costs. You can donate here.
