Although this rock n' roll classic is still quite common on radio and CD today, the near mint 1956 issued 45 rpm stock copy here has almost better sound than most CD's of this song, at least to me it does.

Willie Mae "Big Mama" Thornton (12-11-1926 to 07-25-1984) was an American rhythm and blues singer and songwriter that first recorded "Hound Dog" in 1952 on the Peacock record label. 

I enjoy both versions of this classic hit from the 1950's era.

Don't Be Cruel on the flip side sounds great also, however it also sounds great and full on most CD compilations and did not suffer the problems that seem to effect "Hound Dog" on many of those compilations, either Hound Dog sounds thin and washed out with no high frequencies or it lacks bass and impact on other CD versions. 

I cannot speak for all CD versions of this song, I have heard it on 8 different CD's and did not find it as lively as on the original 45 my aunt and uncle got doubles of when they got married in late 50's and gave me the extra one I posted here, which was very generous of them to do.
