Gwede Mantashe on the mining industry and the Charter

Gwede Mantashe was briefing the media in Pretoria today. On Monday, media reports emerged suggesting that Mantashe is intent on retaining the outline of the controversial Mining Charter championed by his predecessor. But Mantashe says because of the break down in trust between his predecessor and industry over the mining charter, the weekend meeting sought to resolve the strained relationship. He says the meeting recognised that other affected actors, who were not present, would need to be included as they proceed with drafting the new charter. And that two task teams will be established.
