Typhoon Haikui came ashore China after slow westward movement in the days before. Haikui has so far caused heavy rain and winds, killing at least 3 and injuring at least 7 as of 20:00UTC, August 8.
Haikui is the 5th storm to become a Typhoon, and the 11th storm in the West Pacific typhoon season. With the arrival of storm Kirogi, that makes it 12, just 2 behind the record low of 14 set in 2010 even at this early stage of the season. This is the third typhoon to hit China in a week, after the passing of Saola and Damrey.
Whilst not included in the animation, it is estimated that the storm will have caused $1 billion of damage or more.
