No Conflict Of Interest To Hire 1MDB Lawyer

The Attorney-General (AG), Tommy Thomas said there is no conflict of interest in the decision to hire Sitpah Selvaratnam to handle the superyacht, Equanimity case in court. According to Tommy Thomas, the decision to appoint Sitpah was his alone because he had trust and confidence in her ability and integrity. In a statement today, he also said her services are rendered to without any charge to the taxpayer. It must also be kept in mind that these legal proceedings are brought for the benefit of Malaysia. Accordingly, the country is entitled to its best shipping lawyers, hence, Thomas said there is no question over conflict of interest. On Tuesday, the RM1 billion Equanimity docked at the Boustead Cruise Centre in Pulau Indah, Port Klang where it was served with a warrant of arrest. The vessel was seized in Bali in February at the request of US authorities as part of a multibillion-dollar corruption investigation launched by the US Department of Justice related to 1MDB.
