18 employees fired, 350 firms blacklisted by Kenya Power over contract irregularities

Another 18 employees of Kenya Power have been fired and over 350 companies blacklisted from doing business with any government body, following the recommendation of an internal audit and subsequent action by the firm and the parent ministry. Kenya Power Managing Director Ken Tarus confirmed the dismissal of the staff who were adversely mentioned in the report for being party to shortlisting undeserving firms for tenders worth billions of shillings. These companies were found to be unregistered, with some having the said employees, or their relatives, as the directors. Tarus said that out of the 525 pre-qualified firms, the over 350 that have been blacklisted never met the criteria required.
