The Dow Jones fell 67.60 points to 17,142.46, the S&P 500 slipped 7.89 points to 1,990.41 and the Nasdaq dropped 10.05 points to 4,545.17. Orders for durable goods fell 18.2% in August, although the previous month's figure had been distorted by a big increase in aircraft orders. The latest jobless claims figures were slightly better than expected. Initial claims for unemployment benefits rose by 12,000 to a seasonally adjusted 293,000 last week, against analysts' forecasts of 300,000. "If you look at the jobless claims, it is still pretty much indicating that the jobs market expansion is continuing, and that is key," Peter Cardillo, chief market economist at Rockwell Global Capital, told Reuters. Shares in Apple fell 1.6% to $100.11 after the company had to pull an update to its iOS 8 operating system. Apple apologised after the update left some owners of its new iPhones unable to make or receive calls. On the foreign exchange, the dollar has hit a four-year high against a basket of currencies. It rose to a near two-year high against the euro, as markets expect US interest rates to rise next year while monetary policy in the eurozone is expected to remain loose. news,Stock (Literature Subject),stocks,Trading, stock trading,Market, investing,Business,Economic Data, economy,Analysis,Finance
