This time last year I had no idea how to solve a Rubik's cube. I was worse than bad. While on my xmas holiday there was nothing on tv in a language I could understand, so I found myself online a lot, and I found Dan Brown's guide to solving the cube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tOgN7d1D-3s Now at the time I did not own a cube as I had not touched one since I was a kid, but thankfully that doesn't mean you cant start getting in some practice right away, thanks to http://www.smashingames.com/games/rubikscube.html
