Ann, an architect, began to go blind in her 40s. She still retains some vision, but it’s more fragmentary and more focused than a person with full sight. As she scans her surroundings, she picks up light and intense details – she seeks out space and distance to build fuller impressions.

This 16mm film is in three chapters: each section has its own distinct visual tone and sound, but they are all led by extracts from interviews with Ann. Light, nature and stillness are recurring themes reflected in the visuals: a flickering torch beam tracing the shape of plants and trees, light streaming through water, the stillness of a pond at dusk.

Tyro is a writer and director based in London, working in documentary, fashion and fiction. Her work explores disability, family and home, and her recent documentary DRAWING ON won the Short Film Prize at Shuffle Festival.

Ellen Pearson is an experimental filmmaker and artist based in London. Her work pushes the boundaries of documentary, interrogating the intersection between reality and the imagination.
