SPRINGFIELD, Tenn. -- A Robertson County attorney accepted a plea deal Monday that will force him to register as a sex offender.

That plea goes back to alleged sex acts from 2010 involving two teenage girls, Edward Farmer and his then girlfriend Catrina Mcquiston.

The TBI initially discovered evidence of the crime while investigating Farmer's former law partner Fletcher Long, who's a key defense attorney in the Vanderbilt Rape Case.

The resulting investigation into Farmer and Mcquiston lead a grand jury to indict both.

Mcquiston faced charges of having sex with both teens while Farmer was accused of watching.

The TBI further claimed the teens were offered money for the acts.

"It was always his insistence he was not a participant in it. Did not request that it occur," said Farmer's attorney Peter Strianse.

Strianse tells Fox 17 News his client agreed to a "best interest plea" after learning Mcquistion was also pleading guilty and going to testify against him.

McQuiston plead guilty to one count of facilitation of especially aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor and one count of aggravated statutory rape.

Farmer plead guilty to one count of facilitation of especially aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor and one cout of attempt to commit tampering with evidence.

Under the deal both will get 6 years of probation and have to register as sex offenders.

Farmer also has to give up any hope of returning to his law practice.

"The state was gonna be able we believe to put on sufficient proof to convince a jury there was this activity that did occur," said Strianse."As you might imagine some of these offenses in the indictment carry harsh penalties."
