African leaders have been charged to enact the necessary legislation that can enhance free, fair and credible elections and which eventually translate to good governance

This advice was contained in the 28 point communique at the end of a two day high level working group on mitigating disruptive application of information and communication technology on electoral process in Africa organized by the Centre for Human Security and Dialogue of the Olusegun Obasanjo presidential Library in conjunction with the Open Society Foundations in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital

Participants also made case for the establishment of an ICT regional infrastructure to facilitate resource sharing among African Counties.

It was indeed a high level working group session judging from the calibre of participants which included former president Olusegun Obasanjo, former Ghanian president John Mahama, former Prime Minister of Kenya, Raila Odinga, former president of Siera Leone Ernest Koroma, former INEC chairman, Attairu Jega, ICT experts and members of the civil organizations were present here at this round table meeting.

They were here on the issue of mitigating disruptive applications of ICT in the use of information and communication technology on electoral process in Africa, a development they agreed will ensure free, fair and credible process and good governance

In their twenty eight point communique after the two day discussions on this critical and topical subject matter, the working group recommended among other things the establishment of a regional ICT infrastructure to facilitate resource sharing.

In his submission, former president Obasanjo who is also the chairman of the meeting called for the deployment of ICT in the continent electoral, but say must be responsibly deployedl to produce good result for good governance
Beyond discussions here, stakeholders in the electoral process on the continent must be seen to be doing the right thing to enhance credibility of elections
