Civil Servant Among 4 Arrested In Drug Ring

Police have crippled an active drug processing syndicate with the arrests of four men, including a civil servant during raids in various parts of Pulau Pinang on Wednesday.

54.9 kilogrammes of drugs worth RM500,000 were also seized from luxury condominiums that were used as drug labs.

Acting on tip-offs and two weeks surveillance, a police team from the Federal Narcotics Department raided three premises in the state beginning with a condominium unit at Jalan Batu Uban, Gelugor, where an illegal drug processing laboratory was discovered.

Police arrested two men, who were caught red-handed processing the drugs as well as a 51-year-old civil servant was detained at his office in Butterworth while a drug trafficker was picked up in Sungai Batu, Bayan Lepas.

The police also seized five cars, two motorcycles, two watches and froze three bank accounts, all of which amount to RM274,000 ringgit.

Further investigation revealed that all four men had been involved in drug processing and trafficking activities for between six months and one year.

All four have been remanded for seven days to assist in investigation under the Dangerous Drugs Act.
