We are at 20 West 37th Street in Manhattan, where we have the opportunity to ride an old manual driven Otis freight elevator. This elevator is original to the building, which was from the 1910's. The elevator has been pretty much unchanged, aside from the hand crank, which has been modernized, but is still a hand crank, and not buttons. There was a second Otis next to the one we rode in, but it wasn't running this day. One thing of note about this elevator is that in order to stop at the floor you wish to go to, you have to release the crank, and it will stop on its own and level itself as well. The capacity of this elevator is 4000 pounds, and it is cable driven from the roof. If you have any questions about the video, feel free to message me. Comments are welcome. The video was taken on December 13th, 2011.
