Venezuelan-American pianist, Gabriela Montero, improvises a piece inspired by Patriot's Day in Massachusetts just a short while before the Marathon Bombings took place on April 15, 2013. Gabriela dedicated this piece to the men and women of the military as well as their loved ones back at home: "There's a great sacrifice that the men and women of the military and the service men and women of all types do. It's unimaginable for all of us who live a fairly safe existence to even consider what they go through and what their families go through." Born in Caracas, Venezuela, Montero began improvising at the piano as a toddler. She's now widely known for her spontaneous improvisations and crowd participation in that process during live shows. Cathy Fuller hosts this episode of Drive Time Live on Classical New England 99.5 FM in Boston.
