Today's post is all about being grateful for what we have and why taking the time to appreciate things in our lives makes us feel better.

Itadakimasu. This is “bon appetit” in Japanese, and it is what my family would say each night during grace over dinner.

I grew up in a Buddhist family in Japan. My husband, Henry, grew up in a Catholic family in the United States. So when we got married, we weren't sure which religion we were going to take or if we would continue to practice something different.

Turns out, we naturally adopted a blend of the two cultures. This really works for us.

Recently we decided that at the dinner table we would add a tradition and say what we feel grateful for, for the day.

And I have to admit, I really like this practice because when we try to remember what we feel grateful for, for the day, or how we are feeling for the moment, it makes us appreciate things more.

And it's so simple yet powerful. When we say what we are grateful for aloud, it's different than when you think of it in your own mind.

When you're expressing it and sharing it with others, it takes more effort and by sharing with others, you're kind of making a commitment.

I really like this daily practice.

So, what do you feel grateful for today?
